While on a trip to Peru I was terribly affected by a very serious case of diarrhea, so serious in fact that I had to be driven to the hospital because I was completely dehydrated and I could have died. I had to spend two days at a local public hospital before I was cured from the disease which I had caught because I was negligent and I did not listen to the recommendations and warnings of our tour guide. He told us that the most common diarrhea causes in Peru were eating rotten foods and drinking tab water, which was highly contaminated with bacteria. He insisted that we avoid engaging in activities that would involve such possible diarrhea causes by eating only the food from our hotel and by drinking only bottled water.

One day when we were hiking to a nearby archaeological site I got very thirsty because the weather was hot and I was sweating a lot. Unfortunately I had forgotten to buy a bottle of water before starting the hike, so I had nothing to drink. I was so thirsty that as soon as I saw a water tab I opened it and started drinking huge gulps of water which honestly tasted like heaven at that moment. I completely forgot that drinking tab water was among the most common diarrhea causes in Peru. Back home I always drink tab water so it was even more difficult for me to remember that I could not do the same thing in Peru.

When we speak of diarrhea it may not be a bad thing although you need to regulate it. Diarrhea is a way for the digestive system to clean itself, so when you do get diarrhea in any form I suggest you take either nothing or some generic medication designed for that purpose. Diarrhea can be triggered by a number of things and there are at least two types of diarrhea I want to speak about. The first kind is the benign type of diarrhea or the kind of the diarrhea, which in the worst case scenario will keep you very close to you bathroom for at least three days. I say let it ride through and be happy because your digestive system is being cleansed and you need this periodically. But remember to drink plenty of water as this will cause a small measure of dehydration as you may lose a lot of water.
The other type of diarrhea is very dangerous and can be indicative of a greater evil in your system. I am referring to Dysentery, which is a strand of diarrhea, where blood id present in the stool sample. Although indigenous of tropical areas care should be taken to avoid this type if diarrhea in non-tropical areas of the world. This particular case goes beyond irregular vowel movements and gastroenteritis, it is a measure of bacteria in your blood stream and how it affects your immune and digestive system.
